Course title: 6 Hour Site Safety Training (SST) Prescribed Courses


Prerequisites: there are no prerequisites for this course.


Course outline: These courses are in full compliance with the general training school accreditation procedures, standards and requirements set forth and curriculum requirements of NYC DOB standards and regulations. These courses are prescribed courses that can help fulfill the requirement for an individual applying for a site safety-training card. These are awareness-level training only and do not provide any other qualifications or authorization outside of the site safety-training card.


Course description: In order to continue to operate in the city of New York, the designated construction worker is required to complete a minimum number of hours of approved site safety training and to carry site safety identification cards as proof of completion of the training (as per New York City local law 196 of 2017 also known as ‘LL 196’ or ‘local law’). These courses provide eight hours towards the satisfaction of that requirement in drug and alcohol awareness, site safety plan, tool box talks and pre-task meetings.


2 Hour Pre-Task Talks:

Learning Objectives: each learner will be able to:

• Become familiar with the purpose, components, and presentation of pre-task meetings

• Know the administrative & regulatory requirements associated pre-task meetings and record keeping standards

• Understand how to do a Job Hazard Analysis and how to apply the Hierarchy of Controls to find the best hazard control.

• Become familiar with the guided presentation skills and other techniques that can be applied to maximize adult learning.


2 Hour Site Safety Plans:

Learning Objectives: each learner will be able to:

• Identify Site Safety Plans and their significance in the construction field

• Recognize the importance of NYC BC Chapter 33 and how it relates to Site Safety Plans

• Associate key items to be shown on a site safety plan

• Have the ability to identify components of a Site Safety Plan.


2 Hour Toolbox Talks:

Learning Objectives: each learner will be able to:

• Become familiar with Toolbox Talks as a quick and easy way for competent persons to reinforce and supplement established training efforts of an employer and to keep safety and health compliance at the forefront of all worker's minds.

• Heighten their awareness of the need for effective Toolbox Talks

• Demonstrate how to obtain feedback from workers when providing Toolbox Talks so the meetings can become more relevant to what tasks workers are performing.
